November 9, 1934- Born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY

1960- Earned a Ph.D. in Astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago

1971- Obtained a job as a full Professor at Cornell University


1978- Won Pulitzer Prize for his book The Dragons of Eden: Speculations on the Evolution of Human Intelligence

1980- Did a T.V. series on public television called "Cosmos" which was viewed by an estimated 400 million people

Friday December 20, 1996- Died at the age of 62 from complications resulting from bone marrow cancer
